Abstract:
The workshop aims to train participants in responsible waste management and the application of green chemistry principles in the laboratory, thereby reducing risks to health and the environment and lowering operating costs. By the end, trainees should have acquired practical knowledge to correctly classify waste and adopt good practices that promote safety and sustainability.

 

About the speaker, Paula Plasencia:
Paula holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Minho and is currently pursuing a PhD in Pharmacy and Health at the University of Salamanca. Since 1998, she has been working at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. She has over 15 years of experience in hazardous chemical waste management, laboratory safety, and training in good prevention and sustainability practices. As a researcher at CIMO-LaSustec, she works in bioactive compounds, green methodologies, microencapsulation, and sustainable cosmetics, focusing on biowaste recovery, with multiple publications and participation in international conferences. She has experience supervising internships, participating in research projects, and organizing scientific events, and is recognized for her innovative ideas in laboratory management, including the award-winning LabStream project.
