Today we celebrate the life and courage of Malala Yousafzai, a global symbol in the fight for the right to education, especially for girls and women.
Malala faced oppression imposed by the Taliban regime and survived an assassination attempt for defending Pakistani girls' right to education. Instead of backing down, she raised her voice—and the world listened.
In 2013, she addressed the UN calling for universal access to education. In recognition of her cause, July 12th was officially declared "Malala Day" by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The following year, at just 17, she became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
In the Mentoring Academy room, you can find the book "I, Malala," co-authored by Malala Yousafzai with Christina Lamb—a powerful tale of resistance, freedom, and hope.
